What a great day! John & Peyton spoiled me and let me relax ALL day!!! They even let me watch the movie they gave me...Enchanted...what a chick flick...and they joined me...and believe it or not they survived!!! I even got to take a nice long nap, which instead of waking up to Peyton jumping on my head, he instead was tapping me on the shoulder saying "Mommy it's time to get up." It was adorable! Thanks for the great day!

If anyone else is as big of a slacker as I am...you know EXACTLY how good it feels to have JUST finished up and it's not even midnight yet! Wahoo! Now I can focus on cleaning the house since the Hotel Maughan is booked for the weekend!

I know it's been a REALLY long time since I've updated this, but I really do have good excuses. Here they are:
1: I can't access the blog from work, they blocked all "social" networks...the nerve! What else do they want us to do...work?!!!
2: When I get home I try to keep Peyton busy so that John can study...which involves the computer since he's taking mostly online classes.
3: I went a month and a half without a boss at work, which left me holding down the fort while a new one was being hired and trained. This meant LONG hours at the computer at work and less hours at home with my boys.
4: Did I mention that when I'm home John is ALWAYS on the computer? It's OK though, he gets really good grades so I can't complain!

OK, so here's the update...John's now a full time student, working towards his Associates in Business Management. He's taking classes through Clackamas Community College, trying to get most of the classes that he can online, Saturdays or weeknights. This leaves him open to watch Peyton while I'm at work. He's very dedicated to his classes and determined to get good grades, which he is accomplishing! He's still Scout Master, so he's out camping right now...see I'm seizing the moment to update the blog! He's also playing basketball twice a week and teaching Peyton to play pool, it's very cute!

I'm still at the same job. It's a good job, with a lot of flexibility, so I can't complain. I lost a great boss the first week in January, but luckily he was replaced by another really good one a couple of weeks ago. They're completely opposite, but have common threads of putting family first and good work ethics. I'm still working pretty long hours, but once the new boss gets comfortable with everything he's said I'll get some comp time...wahoo!!! My activities calling is awesome! I love that my assignment is to plan some sort of party every month, I even count service projects as fun...since they ARE of course...and there's always food too! Bishop said that he was NOT going to double me up with another calling since this one actually does take quite a bit of time, so I get to help out wherever it's needed. So far I've had one Sunday that I haven't been asked to help out somewhere, primary mostly, and I think that Sunday I even ended up playing the piano in Relief Society! It's great to get to bounce around so much! I really do enjoy life, but a few more hours in the day (preferably for sleep) would be great!

Peyton is still the cutest little guy ever, no offense to anyone else, he has LOTS of cute cousins and friends, but what can I say?! In the past months he has been to Disneyland, celebrated his 2nd birthday, discovered that there are other good movies in addition to The Incredibles, started going with friends to the library for story time, now loves books even more, started potty-training, discovered he can take his clothes off by himself and started saying that he was going to "Go home to...insert any of the following names: Uncle Sean, Maile, Duder, KaiKai, Hailey, Ansen or Gwanma and Gwanpa's house" when he gets angry or really tired. That kid just never stops and it's so much fun!

So there's the update and now I've got to get to bed! I know tomorrow is Saturday, but I still have to be to work at 6:00am and I have an activity tomorrow night! Here's some pictures to to make you all smile!

Peyton wasn't so sure about the characters while we were there, but this has become one of his favorite pictures to look at! Every time he see's it he yells out a real excited Digger!

He had lots of fun, but I think if he could pick, seeing Mr. Incredible would have been the highlight of the whole trip! Good thing he was strapped into the stroller or else I think he would have run out into the parade!

He discovered the joy of getting presents...this is when he first saw the work bench!

The Junior Superhero's played pin the symbol on Dash. Peyton still loves Dash on the wall two months later and he plays with his work bench and gun daily!

Aunt Tori even sent him an Incredible plate, bowl and cup! Awesome!!!

And just the past couple of days Torr, Emily and Haylee visited! It was fun having them here and watching Peyton and Haylee play...even though the first night Peyton got sick, which NEVER happens, that was a bummer! But they still had fun! Come visit again!!!

Oh ya, did I mention that I got my new camera after Christmas? I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!! I'm planning on being down in Ashland next weekend, with my camera, so Saturday if anyone wants family pictures, let me know! Torr and Emily are already on the schedule!

Explosion, Trees, Snow, Lay-Offs, More Snow and Superman...all in Woodburn!!!

Explosion...The past week and a half has been quite the busy one around here! First there was the bomb that blew up a bank about 2 blocks from our house. There were 2 Woodburn police officers and a bomb technician that all were killed, the Woodburn Police Chief is still in critical condition and there have been 2 arrested so far. We still haven't heard why they did it, it's just really a sad situation. I missed the bomb by about 2 minutes. I was sitting on the freeway off-ramp when the bomb went off, so I'm very thankful to those cars that ran the red light and blocked the intersection so I had to wait longer on the off-ramp.

Trees...We had a very fun time with the Morgan and Widing Families up in the hills getting a Christmas Tree! It even snowed just a bit for us while we were there! We all got beautiful trees and had a good time doing it! Very fun!!!

Snow...The next morning I was at Ward Council when people starting calling asking if we were having church because of the snow. We looked outside and sure enough there were about 2 inches on the ground! We had church, even though some members took it upon themselves to call others and announce that church was canceled! Of course schools have been closed all week because of it, mostly because around here when it snows the roads end up being extremely wet sheets of ice and accidents end up closing most of the major roads!
Lay-off...well the economy has taken it's toll on our family at last. With both John & I in construction it was just a matter of time before someone lost their job. Unfortunately John was laid off yesterday. We're very blessed though because about a month or so ago we finally felt good about being able to live off of 1 income and I just about turned in my notice. Fortunately we listened to the spirit and held off because of the economy. Now it's just deciding if we have John look for another job or take the opportunity to finish his school. We'll see...

More snow...after not such a good day yesterday, today sure has been great! I made it to work and back safely just as the snow started accumulating again! By this afternoon we had about 4-5 inches in our yard! We all bundled up and went out to play! It was great! We started a snowball fight with the neighbors over the fence, and they all ended up in our yard playing for a while. It was very fun and I still can't believe we're getting so much snow here in OREGON!!!

Superman...Our wonderful neighbors brought over some toys and clothes that their son had grown out of and when we came in from the snow Peyton found his new best friend...Superman! He's almost as tall as Peyton and it didn't take him long to discover that they wear pretty much the same shoe size! It is hillarious and Peyton has been packing him around the house since! Very cute!

It's been a little crazy around here, but I feel like I finally get to take a little bit of a break...then we got asked to speak in church on Sunday, John's off to a 5 mile hike with the scouts on Friday and I am going to help the Primary out with their music until they can get a chorister, I guess life never slows down! Here's some pictures of the past few weeks. Some are from our trip to Yellowstone, the Maughan Family Reuion, helping dad build the front path (also one of him playing in his outdoor "playpin" while we worked), getting into the pool table pockets (yes he's now tall enough to reach in a get the balls out), sitting like a big boy at the table and enjoying one of the peppers from the garden...not sure if the stem was as good as the pepper! Back from Idaho

We made it safely back from Idaho on Saturday. We went out to the annual Maughan Family Reunion. This year we stayed in Island Park and visited Yellowstone and a little old town called Virginia City. It was fun. We got lots of good pictures so I'll post some soon! It was fun and we can now add Montana and Wyoming to the states that we've visited!

Well, it's been a bit of a rough week for the little guy, but he's come out of it still smiling! Last weekend at the campout he got burned by a coal that flew out of the fire. It landed right above his collar and burned him pretty bad. Then Thursday he got is first road rash...right on his face!
But, being the tough kiddo that he is, he's all smiles and still loving life!

It sure seems like this month has flown by faster than I could have imagined! When I think of summer I imagine relaxing and enjoying the weather...well, this year it's been lots of the enjoying the weather, not so much of the relaxing! Our month has been full of traveling to visit family, planning trips to visit more family, having family visit us (VERY FUN!!!), busy with callings, scout camp, camping, trying to keep the garden and yard in shape through the crazy weather this year...you name it, it seems to be happening this month! I don't know how we ended up being so busy, but it's lots of fun. I wouldn't change a thing! I've put some pictures of our most recent adventures, ward campout that I was in charge of, and the trip to the zoo and water park with some of the cousins.

It's sunny and beautiful in Portland. Anyone want to come visit? The Hotel Maughan is vacant this whole month...so far! There's a Rhododendren Garden that I really want to go visit in the next few weeks while the flowers are so pretty, plus it has all kinds of crazy ducks in the lake that goes right through the park. A Half Day at Work...What a Life!

I left work early, picked up Peyton, Jenn and the girls and we headed off for a day at OMSI. We were all so excited until we got there and saw the signs that it was closed today! Couldn't believe it, but decided to make the best of our day so we headed to the Portland Children's Museum. It was very fun! Peyton stayed very busy and all 3 kids were all tuckered out and sleeping by 5:30 on the way home!

Hoping that we're done with the snow and crazy weather around here we got our garden started today. I've had a few things going inside, but it was way past due to get them out into bigger pots. I spent a good 2 hours looking for the sprinkler pipes we put in so that we could eventually put in a drip system, hoping to do that today, with nothing but very muddy shoes to show for it! When John got back from camping with the Scouts I gave him that task for this week so that I can get everything else planted next weekend.

Of course I had my #1 helper out there with me all day. Peyton was hilarious. The grass needs to be mowed, so he won't walk in it, and he HATES to have his hands touch it. It totally freaks him out. It's so funny to watch him! He drug the big shovel around on the patio for about 1/2 an hour until he had broke out in a sweat, then decided to trade it in for the little one so that he could actually dig with it. He had a real attachment to the bags of potting soil too. He was finding all kinds of ways to have fun with them. It was a very fun day!

Peyton and I made it safely back after a quick trip to Ashland last weekend. The main reason was to be there for Emily Jane's Baby Shower, which was great food and fun shopping! While there we also saw a little bit of Monte's baseball game, a lot of Jared's sweet fro, and went to the KIDS Discovery Center in Medford with all the younger cousins that live down there. It was all lots of fun that we must repeat again sometime soon! We took some pictures and I'll try to get some of them up soon...we'll see how quick that happens!

The biggest shock for the weekend was the weather...I guess it wasn't really a shocker since I knew it was coming...it was just a bit of a surprise that it actually snowed enough to stick! Snow in APRIL! What that is all about, I don't know! It made for a fun drive home though! I would be driving towards blue sky when all of a sudden I'd drive through a small blizzard, then 10 seconds later it was clear and dry again. It was just like the cartoons that show a little cloud raining or snowing in just one little area! It made for a quick trip, especially since Peyton was being SO good playing with his toys in his seat!

Peyton had fun. He loved following all the cousins around and learning to get into lots of trouble. He had his first experience with stairs, since we don't have any and neither does the babysitter...basements are a novelty around here. He did great. He went right up them and would get upset when I made him come back down. He's still got some work to do to master the coming down part by himself, he wants to walk down them, but he figured out going up right away! John said he was like a different kid when he came back! He is trying to talk so much more, laughs all the time at everthing and even teases us now. Yesterday in his highchair he was holding out a piece of cheese for John and when he leaned forward to get it Peyton stuffed it in his mouth and laughed. Wonder where he got that one...Juders and Maile had nothing to do with that I'm sure!

All in all it was fun, WAY too short, but still fun. We're all looking forward to camping at Lost Creek for Memorial Day with everybody!

My first job as a Wedding Coordinator went great this weekend! I couldn't believe how smooth everything went for as grand of a wedding as it was! With the grand hotel, caterers, florist, photographer, string quartet, rental companies...I'm sure you get the picture, the only major hiccup was that the company that was providing the Ice Sculpture flaked out. All good in the end though, the bride was happy to save the money after all the bills were in! I have to say, it really tempts me to say forget-it to this full time job stuff and do just that for a living! It was a blast, very hard work, but all worth it!

Way to go Peyton!!!

After conference today Peyton walked me to his crib and pointed to it. He's been really good about going to sleep when I lay him down, but this was the first time he's ever done this! Wahoo!!! It's so nice to have him tell me what he wants!!! I sure hope he keeps this up!

Alright, alright! We give! Here's the John Maughan Family Blog! We'll see how often I update this.

Things are good here! After rain, hail and even snow this weekend the Portland Area is bright and sunny again! Both John and I are busy with work and life if general. John's scouts are finally starting to get into the camping spirit, so they're out in the woods, snow, who know's where else at least one weekend a month. John's also been snowboarding the past couple weekends, claiming last weekend had the best snow ever with a foot of fresh powder! (Lucky!!!)

I'm trying to stay on top of things with work, relief society, activities, photo shoots (thanks Kelly for the camera for the wedding last weekend...you rock...it was so much fun I think I'm going to break down and invest in a digital!) and I'm still trying to figure out this whole mom thing! It's fun! I can't complain except for that there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day! I'm really excited for spring to finally be here so I can start working in the yard!

As for the little man Peyton...he's as cute as ever, busy as any 1 year old could possibly be, getting into everything and LOVING that he can now open all the doors in the house! I guess it's time to invest in either door knobs to replace all the handles or install a few door guards...bummer! He's also elated that he can now climb up onto things. The other day at work he climbed right up our step stool and getting him off caused quite the commotion! He's fun and makes everyone around him smile, so I have absolutely no complaints! I'm sure some of you are wondering how his heart is, it's doing great as far as we can tell for now. He's back into the cardiologist in June, so that will be his first official check up in almost a year, so we're hoping this one goes as well as the last one! His growth is still on track, so no worries there!

We're glad to see everyone else has blogs so that we can see what everyone is up to...so don't forget to keep them updated...I'll try to do the same! The Gorgeous Georges blog is great! One day I hope to be cool enough to be included on that one too!
